Peter appointed me as Senior Chemistry Technician at Clifton. He was always patient and supportive as I settled into his bustling Department, for that I will for ever be grateful.
Peter was a inspiration and a friend to me as a young teacher and his influence stayed with me thereafter.
Peter led a very happy department at Clifton. I shall always be grateful for the confidence he showed in appointing me to my first teaching job. Perhaps my fondest memory is of the glee with which he seized a lab stool and finished off the destruction of a fume cupboard that I had initiated with rather a large Thermite reaction.
As a tribute to a friend and colleague
Of many memories, standing on the top of Mount Kenya with Peter would be the enduring one.
Peter: Thanks for many years of friendship, travel, music and historical and architectural research. I don't think we once discussed chemistry!
With happy memories dating back to 1960!
My memory of Peter is of childhood holidays at 26, Priory Avenue where Peter with Tony would be listening to the likes of Flanders & Swann and Gerard Hoffnung. Peter was always kind and accommodating to my brother and me at a time when we could be most raucous children. Later, visiting us in Yorkshire (married by then) and enjoying a Gilbert & Sullivan rehearsal. I shall remember Peter with fondness.
Peter, colleague and friend over many years, your life was dedicated to the students you taught, and an indefatigable traveler in retirement, you are much missed.
Given in memory of a longstanding and close friend
